“Of shoes and ships and sealing wax”

“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
“To talk of many things:
Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
And whether pigs have wings.”

-Alice Through the Looking Glass

This passage from Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite pieces of poetry. Most people when they hear this passage or think of this story refer to the Disney film:

However, whenever I think of this quote put to music, I definitely think of the 1985 movie:

This film was such a highlight of my childhood. I remember playing the VHS so much and so often that I wore it out and had to get a new copy! Luckily for my family, I was never pushy in my love for the movie and tended to watch it on my own, unless someone cared to watch it with me. I never insisted that we had to watch it, since for me it was something I loved, and I wanted to share it only with people who loved it, too.

I randomly came across a clip on youtube the other day and decided to look it up on Wikipedia, only to find out that Alice is now 36 years old. Time really does fly!! Also, they released it on DVD in 2006… I’m just saying, my birthday is less than 9 months away 😉

Seriously, that movie was such a highlight of my childhood. If you have not seen it, you MUST!

  1. It is weird to me how much of a kindred spirit you are with me. I used to watch this and The Secret Garden over and over when I was growing up. It just goes to show that loving an esoteric slightly psychedelic show helps you become a smart introspective adult…………or psychotic……I haven’t decided which. 🙂

  2. Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such great info being shared freely out there.

  3. Hi! I’ve been following your site for some time now and finally got the courage to go ahead and give you a shout out from Dallas Texas! Just wanted to tell you keep up the excellent work!

Go ahead and say it
